1. BMS is primarily about building control
A Building Management System supervises and controls building services such as HVAC, pumps, fans, temperatures and alarms. It is close to the equipment and operating sequences.
2. EMS is about energy performance
An Energy Management System adds the analytical layer needed to understand consumption, demand, baselines, trends and exceptions. It often uses both utility-meter and BMS data.
Use the available data to narrow the investigation, but confirm the root cause with site context before changing controls, billing or maintenance decisions.
3. Utility management is about meter-to-customer operations
Utility management software focuses on meter readings, validation, tariffs, tenant allocation, billing, invoices, adjustments and customer reporting. It may also provide consumption dashboards, but its operational purpose is different from BMS control.
